Although the fact of having a first name and one or more surnames is something that occurs in most of today's societies and the exceptions are really very rare, surnames for the common population were established at different times in history for different cultures. In the same way, the last names origin diverges from one place to another, although they keep in common that they are the part of the name of a person in which the family to which he/she belongs is identified.
