Has anyone here done much reearch or investing in Business Development Companies?These things have some similarities to REITs and to CEFs. IIUC, they collect a pool of money, make investments, and then distribute most of the income on an ongoing basis. REITs do this for real estate (and/or, I think in some cases, mortgages and some related stuff), CEFs mainly for conventional stocks and bonds, and BDCs do it for loans, equity investments and the like in smaller companies - i.e. BDCs are a sort of publicly traded VC or mezzanine loan vehicle.What makes BDCs interesting to me is that, as with CEFs, you can get some idea of their portfolio value, and the market price may be much less than that (i.e. they can sell at large discounts). However, the portfolios are illiquid and much harder to value than for CEFs. Still, some BDCs are trading at substantial discounts to their purported NAV/book balue.You can see a few of these things listed at CEFConnect(including EQS and MVC), but there are others that CEFConnect.com does not list.Anyways, are others interested in these? Thoughts? Research tips?
