A small group of family and friends was camping on Blue Ridge above Wrightwood last summer when a storm hit.
Heavy rain and high wind sent everyone except Murrieta resident Joe Fanaselle and a friend scurrying into vehicles at the campground that morning.
Lightning flashed and thunder cracked all around the two men while they cooked breakfast under a canopy. From high on the 8,000-foot ridgeline, they saw lightning strike a dozen trees within a 3-mile radius.
Fanaselle, a trained weather spotter for Riverside County Skywarn, got on the mobile ham radio in his SUV and contacted a nearby Skywarn group. Fanaselle reported weather conditions on the ridge and got the outlook for heavy rain the rest of the day.
Please Help.
