I have around ten years experience in I.T. from .NET development to SQL Server DB work. For the past four years I have not been in the I.T. arena. I have landed a position as a Power BI developer. The product looks good and I think many companies will take it up. So job security is there. However, it seems it is intended for self-service and anyone can start producing reports in Power BI. Therefore I ask, how much of a career is it? and how much of a salary would it provide on average?
Going a further level down to SQL (T-SQL, SSIS) is I.T. and more complicated which provides a more sought after skillset with better salary. Unfortunately, unless you work with the technology day in, day out, I don't think you will be sharp enough to seek employment in it, unless you are seeking a trainee position.
