The Centro Colombo Americano Medellín is a non-profit Colombian institution that promotes human development through academic and cultural programs, fostering extensive exchange with the United States and the world.
Founded in 1947, Center activities are very diverse including the teaching of the English language to an average of 5,000 students monthly; cultural activities which include avant-garde art and photography exhibits by Colombian and international artists with a strong commitment to issues of social and ecological concern, a residency program for artists, one of the foremost repertory film programs in Latin America with daily screenings of documentary and fiction films in two cinemas, video art presentations; art, music and film seminars, concerts, performance art, theater performances etc.; a student advising service; coordination of high school exchange programs and academic exchanges for university professors and young professionals with the United States. Another very important service is that of the Library which contains a collection of more than 45,000 volumes which includes 545 serial titles and 4,500 videocassettes. Daily attendance averages 1,000 persons. Other complementary services include an English language bookstore and a Café-restaurant.
