Creating portal network for long distance travel

Can anyone help me with the mechanics of portal travel?

I have watched several videos on it and am still unclear on some of the details.

What I want to do is more complicated then the videos I found.

I want to cover a distance of almost 3k (3000) blocks. If I make the portals like it shows in the videos I watched, then I will still need to cover about 375 blocks in the nether. I would like to reduce that distance.

I was wondering if it would be possible to make two sets of travel portals so that I would enter the nether, travel to a mid point in the overworld, and then walk to the next set of travel portals in the overworld. And then of course I would like it to work going both ways.

The other posibility is if it would work to move the portals in the nether closer to eachother but still in range of the correct portals in the overworld. From the videos I watched it seems like this will just end up creating aditional portals in the overworld. Is there a way to force the portal in the nether to connect to the overworld portal I want it to?

Any help would be appriciated.

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
