Some group of people representing themselves as the Marine Boat Directory called me a couple weeks ago. They claim to offer some sort of services for $199 per month for which, as I explained to their salesman, I have absolutely no interest.
The salesman insisted upon sending me a check for $25 "just to look over their materials."
Further, they explained they would send the check for $30.01 because the package would come with a $5.01
fee.Well.... dumb sucker me got the package and thought, "$5 for an enclosed $30 check can't be worse than losing $5
So... I just opened their package and started reading their materials
UNLESS I CANCEL, these scam artists intend to bill me for $199 per month whether I cash their check or not.
I am going to the bank first thing in the morning to close the account I used to write the $5.01 check.
Why?? They informed me in the package they will commence automatic billing from the account or credit card used to pay the $5 .No one said any such scam was in operation while they begged to send me their package
Who knows what sort of identity theft these clowns have in mind??
I will also be contacting every marine organization who might be able to inform members of the industry about this scam.Beware. I failed to be properly vigilant and I have no idea what these charlatans might pull.
I will absolutely he calling both the Texas Attorney General and California Attorney General's offices in the morning!!!
