Defining user segments by User - custom attributes

Hello,

I am new to Audience Targeting and really liking what I have seen so far.

I am looking to define a user segment that is to be based on a value set in a custom attribute of the user. OOTB I can segment users by Gender / Age / etc but I need to create more specific segments. Assuming for instance that I have the 'Product Install Version' of a user as a custom attribute in the user profile I would like to segment users on a particular version together. Does that sound a valid use-case for utilizing Audience Targeting?
